Justine & wayne

Vacation to Tennessee

Apr 20, 2019

We started at Cumberland Mountain State Park. The kids wanted to fish and this was a great place. We also had a picnic by the playground and played a little pickleball at the tennis courts. They have camping sites and lots of water activities in the summer. This is a very family friendly location.

Tuesday we went to Ozone Falls. This is right off the main road so you don’t have to hike very far but the hike to the bottom of the falls is steep. It’s a rock scramble so be prepared to climb. The first photo is at the top of the falls.

This is one of the kids at the top of Ozone Falls.

The kids loved all the caves to climb in on the way down.

Wayne is amazing. He carried baby girl everywhere we went. This photo really doesn’t do it justice. It was pretty steep and then he had to climb back up.

It was definitely worth it!!!

After we left there we went to Piney Falls.
2019-04-19_0020.jpg

This was a longer hike to get to the falls. The roads that lead there are narrow and make you feel like you’re lost.

This was the lower falls.

This was the top of the upper falls.

This was also a steep hike once you got to the falls. It reminded me how out of shape I was for sure.

Caleb is sitting on the first part of the lower falls.

This is under the upper falls. It was pretty amazing to be able to go behind the waterfall. We almost didn’t go far enough because the path was not as defined as the others.

Wednesday we went to Obed Wild Scenic River. This was probably my favorite. Obed never disappoints.

We hiked up to Lilly Bluff Overlook.

There is a rock climbing path. The kids loved this area.

We went off the path because we heard water and this is what we found!
2019-04-19_0040.jpg

This was my favorite part. It took a little to get to and you couldn’t see it from where we were.

We went down boulder trail after Lilly Bluff.  This was another of the kids favorite. They climbed for a long time.

On the way back we stopped at Barnett Bridge. The kids wanted to fish. The water was freezing but it was beautiful.

Thursday we went to Fall Creek Falls State Park. The first time we came here, Tennessee was in a drought and there was barely a trickle so it was so amazing to see it full of water.

It wasn’t a long hike but the hike back up was intense.

We made it and Bryce so graciously took our picture under the falls. The kids were a little disappointed because we could not go as far as we did last time. The water was so much higher than before. This park has so many things to offer such as camping, lake activities, swimming pool, and so much more.
2019-04-19_0002.jpg

We also grabbed a few Easter pictures that afternoon by the lake.

Hiking is one of our favorite activities because there are no distractions. Lots of conversation and trust is built.

  1. […] We had access to both the beach and the river. It was great because when the smaller ones wanted to swim the older one could go out on the dock and fish. For us the location was perfect. I love the kids. I can’t believe our 12 year old is already taller than me. I’m so thankful I get to be their mom! I can’t believe this was just a year ago when we went to Tennessee. […]
